Yoga and Its Benefits

    Yoga is the new “in-thing” in the field of physical fitness. Everyone who wants to have a good figure or wants to remain fit does yoga. A form of exercise based on the belief that the body and breath are intimately connected with the mind, yoga had its origins in our part of the world. But unfortunately, it took the West to make yoga popular and “in”.

    By controlling the breath and holding the body in steady poses or asanas, yoga creates harmony for our senses and our spirits. The secret of yoga lies in a simple word: balance. In every aspect of our life, yoga represents balanced moderation.

    The main benefits of yoga can be divided into two parts, physical health benefits and mental health benefits. Both physical health and mental health are important in fighting diseases and in remaining healthy. Regular yoga helps in improving flexibility and muscle joint mobility. It also strengthens, tones, and builds muscles. Another major health benefit of yoga is that it improves breathing disorders and boosts the immune system. With the help of yoga, you can decrease cholesterol and blood sugar levels and also lose weight.

    The mental benefits of yoga are also manifold. Yoga helps you get rid of chronic stress patterns in the body. The awareness of the body is also increased as a result of yoga. But most importantly it relaxes the mind as well as the body, and sharpens concentration. Once your mind is relaxed, a lot of stress is relived and you can save yourself from any effect that a stressful mind has.

    It is advisable to start yoga at the beginner’s level. Yoga is a very unique form of exercise, and extremely beneficial but can be difficult at first. You will realize your limitations, and you should accept them gracefully. Your strength and flexibility will increase. As your body adjusts to this form of exercise, you push yourself further. And this can only lead to healthier results.
