Winter Care Tips for Your Skin
The facial skin, skin in the hands and feet are exposed regions and need to be taken special care of during winters. The skin loses the moisture content due to the dry cold atmosphere and therefore may develop white patches, may become itchy and scaly, may develop irritation, rough patches due to dryness.
The skin in soles of the feet need to be taken care of as cracks may appear making it painful for you to walk due to the pricking sensation. Facial skin may become rough and develop a pulling feeling, and chapped lips may begin to bleed causing burning sensation.
The best precaution you can take is to keep the skin moisturized. Keeping the moisture content at normal level can be done by applying lotions or essential oils in these regions. Keep a moisturizer handy with you and apply it whenever you feel the skin stretching or pulling. Moisturizers get absorbed into the skin easily and you must remember to re-apply it in one hour or so.
After bathing the skin tends to get dry and rough due to the affect of chemicals in the soap. You may change the soap you use during winter. Consider a soap that has oil in it so that it doesn’t dry out your skin or use a moisturizer based soap. A shower gel comprising essential oils will also be a good option.
You may apply coconut oil to your skin (affected areas or whole body) prior to bathing. There is a tendency to bath in hot water during winter; however hot water drains away the moisture. Applying oil before bathing will help in retaining moisture as it blocks the cuticles.
In extremely cold temperatures you may use coconut oil as a moisturizer itself. Applying cream of milk on the skin and leaving it on for sometime before washing it will help as the cream contains natural oil. You may use natural moisture like honey and banana too.
Make a paste of cream of milk, honey and mashed banana and apply it on the face. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes and wipe it off with lukewarm water. It will leave your skin well moisturized.
Applying ghee or coconut oil will be suitable for preventing chapped lips. You may apply Vaseline gel or lip guard too.
