Tooth Care Tips
Dental care is essential for preventing common ailments related to tooth and gums, and for preventing long term impacts like tooth decay, pain, plaque, rotting teeth etc. Impact of these conditions could be foul smelling, painful dental extraction procedures, filling teeth, replacement of tooth by dentures, inability to eat solid foods and so on.
Tooth care comprises taking care of teeth and also the gums. Decay of teeth will affect gums and vice a versa. Following a routine dental hygiene plan is essential so that long term negative impacts and painful conditions can be prevented.
Brush your teeth twice daily, once in the morning and once at night after consuming the final meal. Do not eat after brushing at night. This is because food particles get settled in the teeth cavities and bacteria can act on them whole night causing foul smell and tooth decay.
After every meal rinse your mouth thoroughly. Fill up the mouth with water and swish it in the mouth in such a way that it reaches the corners and cavities and can remove stuck particles.
To prevent tooth decay, avoid eating food items that tend to stick to the teeth. Sticky chocolates, milk based sweets, peppermint, chips and wafers etc get stuck in the cavities and do not come off easily unless brushed.
Do not brush very frequently as teeth get affected by excessive fluoride and agents used in toothpastes. Use herbal toothpaste if possible.
To prevent staining of teeth, avoid contact with drinks and food that have a strong colour, artificial colours etc. This includes soft drinks, colas that have artificial colours and also coffee as it tends to stain the teeth. To prevent contact of teeth with these use a straw for sipping.
Dental floss will help in ensuring dental hygiene on a day to day basis. Use an anti bacteria mouth wash for rinsing teeth so that bacterial action causing decay can be minimized.
