Steps to Prevent Teeth Staining
Staining of teeth can lead to appearance of yellow or brown film on the surface of the teeth. Staining is an indicator of poor oral care practices and can lead to decay of teeth, breakage and also origination of foul smell.
It may look very unpleasant and unclean when you are in a face to face interaction with anyone. It creates a poor impression on anyone and makes you feel conscious about your own self.
To prevent teeth staining, rinse the mouth after every meal or even after consuming some drinks. For example, when you drink tea or coffee especially black tea or coffee, the colour tends to remain on the teeth. By rinsing the mouth or slightly rubbing the finger on the teeth surface, you may be able to limit the impact of discoloration these drinks can cause.
Similarly for soft drinks like colas or sodas, aerated drinks which are coloured in orange, black etc using artificial agents, you must exercise the same caution as you may have noticed that the colour of these drinks remains on the tongue or gums after drinking them.
Use a straw while drinking these drinks. This will minimize the contact with the teeth and therefore reduce the chances of discoloration.
Similarly after eating meals, especially in a restaurant, you must rinse your mouth thoroughly as restaurants use artificial colours for making the food look delicious and inviting.
Brush your teeth at least twice a day. Brushing after the final meal at night is healthy for oral hygiene as it prevents the bacterial action that can take place overnight. Avoid eating anything after brushing teeth.
Eating fruits, especially apple after a meal is helpful as it removes the settled food particles, plaque and stains that may remain on the teeth.
Avoid smoking; it causes darkening of teeth and faster discoloration. Similarly, limit the consumption of alcoholic drinks.
