Space in a Relationship
Balance is the key word in any relationship. Giving too much space or taking too much space can lead to irreparable damage to a relationship. Work on balancing the amount of emotional space you take up in your relationship so that both of you get the room you need to be yourself.
The first type of couple is where one person in the relationship takes up most of the emotional space. One person in this relationship over shadows the other and ends up behaving like he or she is doing everything for the relationship. Both the partners in this case will be unhappy. The only way this problem can be solved is by understanding your partner and letting them be. If you are over stressed, talk to your friends, and try and sort out things. Don’t try and burden your partner with too much emotional baggage.
The second type of couple is where neither person in the relationship takes up much or any emotional space. This is also not a very healthy thing to do. If you don’t take any emotional space at all, it might seem to your partner that you simple don’t care. They are not bothered about what is actually happening in the relationship. There is always this want for something better in the relationship. The best way to tackle this type of a relationship is by sharing more about your securities and insecurities. Take small emotional risks, and see if your partner will follow. Make sure you give your best shot to your partner and your relationship.
The third type of couple is where both people in the relationship take up enough emotional space to feel connected and loved. This is the healthiest relationship of the lot. Here both the partners feel emotionally connected and understand and respect the emotional space. There is a balance in the emotions, and this leads to a perfectly enjoyable relationship. If you belong to this category, there is nothing like it.
