Saying No To Boyfriend’s Sexual Advances

One of the tough and touchy issues women face in a relationship is handling the sexual advances made by the man. Women by habit, by practice and by custom have a guarded approach when it comes to matters relating to physical intimacy or sexual involvement. They are conditioned in such a way that proximity and intimacy with men is considered to be negative, sinful or morally wrong thing to do.
It takes time to break this barrier of social norms, popular opinion, and negative attitude. However, the partner may have a keen interest in intimacy, though it may not mean plainly sex. It may be a light yet passionate physical involvement. Things may only progress from here on.
Women need to be clear and know the boundaries of the relationship she wants to share with the man. Though the onus and responsibility lies on both the people concerned, women need to be a bit more assertive and must exercise their choice cautiously.
Know the limit upto which you will be giving and compromising with the partner. However, once the limit is reached and the partner gets more demanding, a friction could develop in the relationship.
Do not fear the arguments or conflict your negative response to partner’s sexual interest may create. Hold your stand. Explain to your partner that this is the only extent to which you can accommodate his desires. To make matters easier confess honestly about your fears, inhibitions, reservations and the reason why you think you need to place a restriction on the level of sexual involvement.
Do not hurt the sensitivity of the partner. The partner may take this negative response as a rejection and may feel hurt. The chances of bruising his ego are also very high. So you may comfort him saying that you do like the interest and initiative of the partner; however some things have to wait till the right time or till you are perfectly comfortable with it.
