Summers causes havoc on our skin, and we all are fully aware of the toll the heat and the harsh sun rays takes on our skin. Our skin turns all dry and itchy. In fact dry skin is a major problem in winters also. If we don’t take proper care of dry, itchy skin at its early stages, it can lead to various skin ailments. Everyone knows about the need to protect the skin with sunscreen, but we fail to do more than that, and end up with dry skin. To get rid of the itchy feeling, and also to prevent dryness, we need to do a few things and they are pretty simple.
First of all, our bathing water should be warm and not too hot. A lot of people have the habit of using hot, steaming water for their bath. But this is not advisable. Hot water strips the skin of the moisture and makes it dry. Also, limiting the shower time to 10-15 minutes help prevent moisture loss from the skin.
The usage of mild soap is also advisable. Excessive use of antibacterial or deodorant soaps should also be avoided. It is generally seen that washing your face at night is best to get rid of the impurities, so even if you skip washing your face in the morning it is fine. Washing your face too many times can lead to over-drying of the facial skin.
Make sure you apply a moisturizer while the skin is still wet. You should apply a body lotion also right after you take a bath. This locks the moisture within and prevents it from getting dry. You should make sure you moisturize your hands a bit too well, as they dry the most.
While taking care of our whole body, we forget that our lips are most susceptible to harm from the harsh rays of the sun. They need to be taken care of properly. Use a lip balm which has an SPF of at least 15 and use it liberally.
