Reasons for Stomach Upset
Stomach upset could result out of improper eating habits or because of faulty lifestyle. Eating habits are related to the time you eat, the proportion of food you eat and what comprises the food eaten. Lifestyle issues deal with the practices undertaken after/before eating, time gap before eating and sleeping and so on.
Food should always be eaten in moderation. Anything done in excess is likely to cause an imbalance and upset the body and its functions. Gorging on a large meal is a sure provocateur of stomach upset. The digestive system gets over taxed due to excessive intake of food at one go. Eating small meals throughout the day is better as digestion process can go on smoothly.
Eating food at regular time intervals is important. Not eating for long time gap leads to acidity. Do not skip meals during the morning or day and then gorge on a large dinner to compensate. This may have adverse reactions.
There are certain combination of food that must be avoided at the same time. For example, do not eat citric fruits along with the meals. Fruits can be taken before meals or after a gap of one hour or so after meals. Taking citric fruit juice or alcoholic drinks or tea, coffee with meals is likely to causes digestion problems.
Food cravings and overeating can have a similar effect. Similarly too much of anything can be a problem. Say for example you attend a marriage function and like a particular spicy dish or sweet dish and overeat it, stomach upset is bound to occur. Fruits also shouldn’t be overeaten.
Eating food that is days old, is in the process of rotting or is spoil is obviously harmful.
Taking up high level of physically strenuous activities after meals will interfere with digestion. Exercises (especially exercises for abdominal region) should not be done immediately after eating as it creates additional pressure on the stomach muscles and organs that help in digestion.
Lying down flat on your stomach immediately after eating may lead to stomach upset.
