Preventing Gas
Formation of gas can be disturbing to many of us. Sometimes it causes shooting pain in the abdominal region, makes you feel so full and stuffed that it creates a psychological block. Release of gas at inappropriate times, in inappropriate place can also cause embarrassment and awkwardness.
The bloated sensation may make you feel uneasy and uncomfortable, especially women get irritated and moody with a stomach that is bloating and bulging. It may create distress as you may find the trouser or pants fitting rigidly and causing pain while sitting.
Gas is caused by eating certain foods. Each person needs to be aware of the impact a particular food has on their body. For example, for some people eating foods containing potatoes can cause gas problem, some may get affected by eating cabbage, onion or cauliflower. Few people may get affected by eating milk products like cheese or milk based sweets.
It may also be caused by eating pulses in some cases. Avoid foods that you feel may cause this reaction in your body. Avoid eating food that comprises excessive oil, fat or spices.
Do not overeat. Do not stuff yourself with food at one go. Eat meals in small quantities throughout the day. A large meal can make digestion difficult and lead to formation of gas. Overeating or shooting your capacity for food intake can be a potential reason for gas problem.
Also when you consume food, take your time, eat slowly. Do not eat fast or gulp food or drink water to wash down food. Gas may be generated by gulping air. Avoid drinking water between each morsel of food. Also take in small morsels of food rather than large chunks.
Restricting consumption of soft drinks, carbonated drinks, fizzy or aerated drinks, those containing soda can be beneficial in avoiding gas problem.
Eat fruits containing dietary fibre like papaya or pineapple, and food like brown rice, green leafy vegetables, and raw vegetables like tomato, carrots or cucumber.
