Precautions Against Cold
Cold creates a lot of discomfort due to congestion of chest, blockage of nose, irritation due to running nose, pain in the head due to congestion, burning sensation due to rubbing nose and pain in the jawline and facial muscles and so on. Cold can make it difficult for you to carry on with normal day to day functioning.
Some basic precautions can be taken to avoid catching cold. Be alert during climate changes. Sudden climate changes can be a potential source of common cold. Sudden alterations in climate creates changes in the body temperature suddenly. The interplay of heat and cold can lead to development of cold.
We must be aware of drastic changes in the environment. Though we cannot prevent changes in the natural environment we can regulate our exposure to the environment we create. For example, when you step into the home after being exposed to harsh sun do not put on the fan at full speed and sit under it. This causes sudden alteration in the temperature in the body.
Let the body cool down naturally. Similarly, avoid drinking cold water when you are exposed to heat. Drinking chilled water, soft drinks or juice while being exposed to sunlight can provoke the onset of cold.
You must also guard against stepping into an air conditioned room after exposure to hot and humid conditions. The cold blast of air mingles with the heat in the body and will produce an imbalance of temperature leading to congestion.
After hair wash too, do not sit directly under the fan. Let the hair get cooled in natural breeze. If you have washed your hair in hot water, avoid contact with air conditioned chilled room. During winters, avoid taking a hair bath at night. Also avoid taking bath at odd hours. Follow the daily routine of bathing.
Combination of hot and cold food should be avoided.
