Almost everyone has gone through the rough phase of having ugly acne on their faces. This is so common in a particular age that it seems like everyone has this problem. Some people are lucky; they don’t get acne even during the awkward teenage years. However, we are mostly guided by some myths about acne and acne control.
The first myth is that acne is caused by poor hygiene. What happens is that once people start believing that they try and wash their faces too frequently and this makes the skin worse. Acne is not caused by dirt or surface skin oils. Forceful washing and scrubbing isn’t an effective acne control and will actually irritate the skin and make the disorder worse. So make sure you wash your face a few times and that too very gently.
The second thing we go wrong on is that acne is caused by diet. No fast food causes acne. So anyone who has been told to restrain from your favorite chocolate, French fries, pizza and other such stuff can behave a sigh of relief. Have a balanced diet with the requisite amount of everything and there is no reason whatsoever to skip your fast foods.
The third myth is that acne is caused by everyday stress. The ordinary day-to-day stress is not a causal factor for acne – though severe or prolonged emotional stress can worsen this particular disorder. So relax and be happy.
The fourth myth is that acne is just a cosmetic problem. Though acne does affect the way people look it is not otherwise a serious threat to a person’s physical health. But it can result in permanent physical scars as well as affecting the way people feel about themselves to the point of affecting their lives.
The fifth major myth is that you just have to let acne run its course. This is not true at all. Like all disorders of the body you need to treat acne and take proper care. No amount of waiting will help you get rid of this.
