Manicures Made Easy
SHAPE THEM
First step is to wipe off old varnish with a nail polish remover and shape your nails. Use a fine-grained file and stay away from those rough, sandpaper-like versions, as they’re made especially for acrylics and are much too harsh for natural nails. It’s best to keep nails shorter to suit strong shades in winter and you can keep them a little longer in summer to show off the tropical hues.
BUFF YOUR NAILS
Buffing helps create a smooth foundation for your new color. It stimulates the blood flow to the base of your nail which in turn will make them grow faster and become healthier. Buffing is also an essential step if you’re planning to use bright metallic shades of polish. Metallic shades highlight any ridges or unevenness in your nail and buffing before you paint will smooth out the surface.
BASE COAT
It is essential to protect nails from staining and also allows your chosen color to last longer. It also makes the painting process a lot easier. Just apply one thin coat of clear polish to speed up the drying process.
PAINT
Start by brushing on one sheer coat before applying another. Load up your brush with polish and use lots of painting strokes. Instead of the dated three-stroke method apply two thin coats of color as any more will prevent the polish drying properly, making smudges and dents more likely. If you are not confident about your strokes use paler shades as they will make your mistakes less obvious.
FINISHING TOUCH
Give your nails a finishing touch with a slick of glossy top coat that will guard against chips and cracks and will boost luster. A good-quality product will keep your nails shiny and protect them against the damage of daily wear and tear. You can speed up the drying process by applying a spritz of quick-dry spray afterwards.
