Maintaining Work-Life Balance
Some of us tend to get obsessed with the work we are doing, with the studies you are involved with, pressure of deadlines, competition, efficiency and performance expected from you and so on.
Adults get pressured to take on more responsibilities and professional commitments so that they can be professionally and financially stable. Students get more and more involved into studies so that they can top the exam, get better colleges to study in, better job openings and so on.
In this process we neglect the essence of life and survival itself. The way we live our lives reduces the opportunities for deriving the best things out of it. We ignore our own happiness, and take it for granted that life is long and there will be time for enjoyment later on, but now we must make the most of our time in doing things that will add to our happiness and security in future. But in future also we remain preoccupied with these material concerns and forget to enjoy life.
This tilted and unbalanced approach is the root of unhappiness, stress, anxiety, frustration, depression, nervousness, tension, lack of enthusiasm and dullness in life. Do not leave happiness for tomorrow, tomorrow may never come. Neither is it intended that you live a carefree and frivolous life not caring about tomorrow/future. Work and profession is important but not at the cost of your health, and physical, emotional and spiritual well being.
Strike a balance between the two. Office related problems/issues must be left back in the office; similarly personal and family problems should be left back at home, unless there is a very pressing need. Many of us are habituated to continuing the official work at home and wasting the leisure time available that can be used for exploring our individuality, creativity, interest, relaxation activities, fitness activities and so on. This can be a dangerous addiction. Stop this practice.
