As winter approaches, we notice that our lips start looking dry and flaky. Not only in winters – sometimes these problems crop up during the summers as well. Chapped lips not only look bad, but are extremely painful. Sometimes chapped lips lead to cracked and bleeding lips. The pain that we feel intensifies as we eat or drink something. The spicier the food, the worse it is.
Chapped lips occur due to excessive dryness. When our skin loses its moisture retention capacity, our lips end up chapped and cracked. We can lose moisture in our lips due to exposure to too much sun or cold wind. The more time we spend outdoors without any protection to our lips, more are the chances of us losing the moisture. Also, a lot of people have the nervous habit of licking their lips frequently. This also leads to dryness of the lips. And ladies, you can also be allergic to lipsticks which can lead to irritation and dryness of your lips.
But the good news is that chapped lips are not a life long problem. We can easily take care of this. Massaging the lip with castor oil or petroleum jelly helps soften your lips. In fact you should do this at night, and after the massage you should clean your lips with a damp facecloth. This removes the flakiness of your lips as well. Before going to bed and also before moving out of home, you should apply a gentle lip balm to cover your lips and to prevent losing moisture. Vitamin E capsules when applied to your lips act as a good remedy to dry and chapped lips.
Also you should remember that over exposure to sun leads to your lips getting dry. Therefore you should use a lip balm with sun block while going outdoors. Drinking water hydrates your body and your skin, so make sure you drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water everyday to prevent chapped lips. And most importantly, avoid licking your lips too frequently.
Follow these rules and be ready to be known as “luscious lips”!
