Irregular Sleeping Habits

Many people have trouble sleeping at night. This tendency cuts across various segments of population right from children to teenagers, to adults, married people and the elderly and aged. Loss of sleep could be attributed to disorders in the lifestyle of an individual and the level of mental well being.

Common lifestyle trends that people follow are detrimental to health. Many of us have a sedentary lifestyle without much physical activity, fitness regimes or daily sports or hobby activities. Due to preoccupation with television, net surfing, chatting, video games, networking etc., the body and mind do not get tired and one may feel absolutely energetic and active even at late night hours.

The corporate globalization has brought about several ill effects on sleeping schedules due to the time differentials in various parts of the world. Individuals have to adjust their bodies and sleep patterns to other times zones thereby creating sleeplessness, sleeping at odd hours, forced sleep, using pills to fall sleep, problem of insomnia and so on.

Due to the plethora of entertainment avenues like movies at night, high night life in discos and pubs, the regular sleep pattern of an individual goes for a toss. They may prefer to compromise on sleeping hours rather than miss a party.

Due to professional compulsions like nearing deadlines, tension and pressure of important deals, high case loads, rising backlogs, working professionals may put in more and more hours of overtime thereby compromising on sleep and alternating their sleeping and rising patterns.

Again children and teenagers/youth may be compelled by considerations of education, examinations, test, assignment to stretch their capacity and cut down on hours of sleep. Some may take on the practice of sleeping very late at night and waking up very late too.

Tension, worry, anxiety, insecurities of future, conflicts in life, dissatisfaction with life, panic and nervousness about professional, family and personal problems may also overwork the mind making it restless, overactive and unable to be calm and relaxed.
