Importance of Breakfast
Breakfast is the primary and most important meal of the day. Breakfast is the apt word to describe the meal as it literally means breaking the night long fast of atleast 6-7 hours between the dinner and the morning breakfast.
Breakfast should never be skipped. Many health experts and dieticians suggest that breakfast should be a heavy rich meal, in terms of the nutritional value and probably the quantity too so that it can bridge the energy gap between the 7 hours of non consumption of food and the requirement of energy and stamina for carrying out day to day work.
Infact it is commonly said that ‘have a breakfast like a king and dinner like a beggar’. This is because the food that is consumed in the beginning of the day gets digested easily as we are involved in some kind of physical activity or the other. Lot of stamina and energy are required for carrying out these tasks too.
In the absence of a wholesome nutritious breakfast we may feel tired, exhausted, lethargic, dull, incapable of carrying out any physically active work and depleted at the beginning of the day itself. In some cases, acidity may occur if breakfast is skipped, dizziness, unconsciousness, hunger pangs, black outs, trembling or weakness, or headache may set in if breakfast is not taken.
The process of burning calories begins with physical activity and continues upto the end of the day or when one gets settled into a passive state. If you are a person who exercises in the morning a good breakfast is even more essential for you since the exercise fuels the calorie burning process. In the absence of breakfast, all your energy will be consumed by the exercise and there will be no stamina left for doing the day to day activities.
Breakfast should comprise of energy giving foods like eggs, oatmeal, milk and milk products, food rich in dietary fibre like fruits, whole grains, and protein rich food too.
Oily, deep fried, spicy, acidic food should generally be avoided.
