Health Care Tips While Travelling
Travelling can create stress despite the fact that you are relatively idle, unoccupied, not under strain or tension or under any kind of physical exertion. Yet travelling can be mentally depleting due to the boredom caused, roaming mind, continuous flow of irrelevant thoughts or brooding over issues that create tension, anxiety, nervousness or sorrow.
The body also feels depleted and exhausted due to the immobility, long hours of sitting, not being able to sleep in a comfortable and relaxed position, distractions by others around, not being able to eat nutritious and health giving food and so on.
The first priority is to avoid dehydration. See to it that you consume plenty of water during the journey. You can have water in plain form or use liquids like tea, coffee, coconut juice, fruit juice, or soups while travelling. Avoid too much of tea as it may cause heat and acidity. However, tea with ginger could be a good option.
Avoid soft drinks and beverages. It is likely to cause gas. Avoid consuming alcohol. Rather drink more of buttermilk as it contains water and is also cooling for the body. Fruits and vegetables can also supplement the water intake. Consuming bananas, papaya, tomato slices and slices of cucumber can be helpful in maintaining the water level and balancing body temperature.
Eat fruits like oranges, apple, grapes or watermelon. These are good sources of water and also contain natural sugar like glucose and fructose. These fruits are sources of instant energy and will prevent feeling of exhaustion and tiredness.
Avoid eating oily, deep fried, excessively fatty items while travelling. Eat items like vegetable sandwich, steamed rice with curd or simple curry, non greasy food preparations like say boiled eggs, roasted/steamed food rather than fried food.
Rather than munching on fried crisp wafers or munchies, you could snack on roasted nuts or cereals, or dry fruits like almonds, cashew, dry fig, raisins etc. These are instant sources of energy and are not likely to cause stomach upset or feeling of lethargy and heaviness.
