Health Care Tips during Winter
Due to sudden climatic changes and prevalence of lower temperatures infections may develop faster. Common cold, fever, nasal or chest constriction, sore throat, body ache are some conditions one might go through in winter season. There may also be a feeling of lethargy, drowsiness and craving to eat more.
There are certain dietary and lifestyle precautions you can take so that your susceptibility to these infections does not increase. By keeping yourself active and fit you will also avoid putting on weight due to overeating or tendency to sleep more and venture out less.
Firstly follow certain dietary regulations. Avoid drinking water straight out of the refrigerator if you have a sensitive throat. Avoid eating food that is cold. Ice creams and colas can also be avoided incase you have a sensitive throat. Throat constriction can slowly progress into cold and then develop into a fever too. Avoid eating or drinking anything that may affect the throat.
Avoid putting yourself through sudden temperature changes. For example, avoid sitting right under the fan or operating the fan at full speed after you are out of a hot water bath. Be in normal room temperature even though you might temporarily feel humid and sweaty.
Eat warm foods and do not restrict the intake of liquids. During winters there is a tendency to reduce intake of water. This will lead to loss of moisture from the body and also alter the process of digestion, metabolism, maintaining body temperature and so on.
Increase intake of liquids in the form of soup. Tomato soup, mushroom soup, corn soup, vegetable soup are some of the healthy options you can try. You will also benefit by adding ginger or garlic to these soups are they are natural agents for fighting infection and bacterial action. Drinking tea and coffee will also help to keep you warm and active.
Avoid intake of oily and deep fried items as sometimes the oil affects the throat and causes irritation. Similarly avoid eating sour items or fruits. You can consume fruits like papaya, apples or bananas. It might be better if fruits like pineapple, grapes or oranges are not consumed at night.
