Health Benefits of Aquatic Exercises
Aquatic exercises are those that are performed in water. The main activity/exercise may remain the same, however, performing it in water gives it another dimension.
Water is known to have many therapeutic benefits. Water therapy is suggested to calm nerves, to beat stress, relieve tension, anxiety and panic. Infact even pregnant women now a days are advised water therapy to ease the pain during labour and restlessness during pregnancy.
Initially exercises like aerobics, stretching were confined to the gym. However now a days, aerobics and stretching is done in water too. Many of the injuries that are caused during exercises like leg injury, sprain, pull and catch etc can be minimized while performing these exercises in water.
The reason is that while working out, the leg can bang on the hard ground and knee or joints may get injured. However, while performing these activities in water, water acts as a buffer and minimizes the impact felt while hitting any surface. It also provides buoyancy due to which the body weight does not fall directly on the leg.
Therefore people suffering from leg injuries, athletes who are recovering from leg injuries and want to exercise the leg can exercise in water. Even aged people and people with weak bones can benefit from water based exercises.
Water also acts as a resistant factor and exercises the muscles and body parts more. Therefore, those looking for weight loss should go in for water based exercises like aerobics or swimming.
Swimming helps in toning the body entirely and keeps you in perfect shape. Nothing can beat swimming as far as overall fitness is concerned. It improves the capacity of the lungs, improves breathing and leads to co-ordination of the mind and body. It works out the muscles in the neck region and avoids stiffness.
It tones the thighs and reduces extra flab. It cuts down the bulge in the stomach and reduces abdominal fat.
