Factors Causing Dry Skin
A person could naturally have a dry skin texture. Sometimes however, it can be a result of external influences and interference that can cause your skin to get dry. Dryness may be accompanied by peeling of skin, irritation/itching in dried area, appearance of white patches, or feeling of stretching skin and roughness.
Change in climatic conditions could be one of the predominant reasons why skin can get dry. For example, dry skin is very common during winter season. Due to the cold temperature and also due to the fact that the skin does not retain moisture, you may find the skin feeling stretched and drying out. Also, the moisturizing lotion that is applied gets absorbed into the skin within an hour or so, therefore it has to be reapplied time and again.
Dry skin condition can also occur during summer season. Due to the heat and dry hot climate, the body loses out water easily. Water is a natural moisturizer and due to the loss of water, the moisture content is lost and the skin becomes dry. The exposure to direct harsh sunlight can do similar damage to the skin.
Some of us may find the skin feeling dry after a bath. Most bathing soaps contain additional chemical compositions for removing dirt and for fragrance and so on. Some soaps can be harsh on the facial skin causing dryness. Therefore applying soap on the facial skin should be minimum.
Dryness can also result from frequently washing the face or scrubbing it harshly. This drains out the natural nutrients and minerals present in the skin and makes it lose the smooth and supple texture.
Wrong choice of face wash or skin care products can do the damage too. If your skin is already sensitive and dry, you mustn’t use a concentrated and strong face wash. Using milder solutions would be suitable.
Taking a dip in the ocean or going to a swimming pool may also lead to dryness.
