Dressing up for workplace
Workplace is a professional zone and needs care and attention while dressing. The attire has to be such that it comes within the acceptable parameters of the organization. It should make you feel in touch with yourself, comfortable and should enhance your personality.
Clothing impacts a person’s mood and personality. There are some types of clothing that make you feel confident, smart, positive, ready to take on challenges and do your best. Whereas some clothes have an opposite affect making you feel serious, out of mood, reserved or morose. Along with the dressing code of the organization you must also pick up clothes that make you feel energetic and cheerful so that it does not come in the way of your performance and interpersonal interactions.
Be in tandem with the culture of your organization. If they have a relaxed dressing policy you may choose to wear t-shirts and jeans and other such informal clothes as they cheer up the mood, make you feel confident, stress free and in an upbeat mood. Your productivity improves due to such an upbeat and energetic frame of mind.
Wear clothes that have an appearance of professionalism. You can watch out for simple facts like say the colour of the attire. Choose lighter shades like light blue, pink, green, white or half white on weekdays and you may wear cheerful colours like red, blue, purple etc on weekends when there is mood of relaxation and lightheartedness.
Select clothing that suits your personality. Clothes that attract you but do not make you feel comfortable are a wrong choice, as you will feel constricted and self conscious in it, and this may mar your mood and performance. Wear clothes that fit you perfectly. The clothing shouldn’t be too figure hugging nor should it be loose.
Be within the norms of decent dressing in the organization as it makes a statement about you, your attitude, and affects the judgment of your colleagues and higher ups. Poor dressing sense or flamboyant dressing style may create a wrong opinion about you.
Wear formal clothes if you are going to meet a client or make a presentation. Colours like black, navy blue, white will suit the occasion as it creates an impression of professionalism and authority.
