The knowledge that you have an alternative sexual preference as against the heterosexual norm set up by the society may provoke feelings of fear and insecurity, considering the social stigma and lack of acceptance. You may consider telling them about your sexuality if you feel that the person can be trusted and will not make things difficult and complicated for you. While you are discussing about the issue, offer explains, clarifications and counter-arguments so as to clear misgivings about homosexuality. You may yourself have to sensitize your family members by reading out pamphlets or showing documentaries that break the myth and popular perceptions, and demystifies the concept of homosexuality.
If you are attaining the marriageable age, you may consider dropping hints about your sexual preference. If you are being pressurized into marriage, you may just have to come out in the open and explain your position and stand, and stick to it. You may have to face opposition or insensitivity, however, you may have to stick out in the phase till they eventually come around to accepting you, or consider other options you have.
