Though we take a lot of precautions before stepping into the sun, even then sunburns are hard to avoid. The tips and at-home remedies given in this article will help you soothe the sun’s woes to your skin in addition to the lobster-like redness.
Baking Soda
Soaking in warm water containing 1 to two cups of baking soda, for ten to twenty minutes can help soothe skin irritations like sunburn and other summer-related issues like bug bites. Once you step out of the bath pat dry the skin instead of rubbing it. If you wish to treat small areas of your body like the top of your feet you can apply a paste of baking soda and water directly to the affected area.
Cool Off Your Eyes
To minimize the red puffiness around your eyes and cool down your face slightly dampen cotton swabs and place them in the freezer. Gently roll the chilled swabs around your eyes and on top of your ears.
Epsom Salt
Another home remedy that works wonders for sunburns is an Epsom Salt bath. Dissolve a cup of Epsom salt in boiling water and then pour the solution into a warm bath. Soak yourself into this bath for fifteen to twenty minutes.
Aloe Vera
If you have an Aloe Vera plant in your home it can come to your rescue in case of a sun burn. Just squeeze the gel like substance directly from the aloe vera leaves and apply it to treat minor burns or irritations.
If you don’t have an aloe vera plant around you can use aloe vera gel available in the market to cool off your skin.
Sun Repair Products
You must start your skin’s healing process immediately after a prolonged exposure in the sun. You can do this by smoothing on a good after-sun rehydrating balm.
Drink H2O
Body gets dehydrated with sunburn. The best way to replenish the lost fluids from your body is to drink lots of water after being out in the sun for long.
Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
If you’ve got yourself a severe sunburn then its best to consult a dermatologist. He may suggest a drug that helps reduce the discomfort and inflammation caused by the burn.
