Benefits of Yoga
Yoga is one of the most ancient practices that has been contributing to the health and well being of people. It is only now that the importance and immense contribution of yoga is being recognized and it has been popularized by several forms of media and several institutions teaching the art.
Yoga can contribute to physical as well as emotional/spiritual well being. It comprises of several postures and exercises that boost the health of an individual and helps in keeping common ailments, and health conditions at bay. For example, there are some postures (touching the head to the ground and balancing the body upside down) that help in improving the supply of blood to the brain. This also improves the oxygen supply and refreshes and energizes the cells in the brain.
There are some activities that can help in reducing acidity and its ill effects like headaches, nausea, vomiting etc. This comprises drinking plenty of warm water mixed with a pinch of salt and then expelling it out of the body. This reduces the content of acids, toxins in the body.
Yoga also has exercises for preventing accumulation of fat/flab in the body. It prescribes activities for the hip region, exercises for the abdomen, for the thighs etc. This not only cuts down the excessive bulge in these areas but also improves the process of digestion and metabolism.
It has postures that enable releasing gas too, which can really benefit people suffering from gas related problems or bloating stomach.
Postures for preventing backache are prescribed in yoga that can come in handy for many of us suffering from backache due to improper sitting postures at office, pain due to long hours of sitting, travelling etc.
These exercises are simple to carry out and do not put you through lot of pain and discomfort. The chances of exertion or stress due to exercising are reduced by practicing yoga. It also reduces the scope of injuries or muscle tear that can take place while performing other strenuous exercises.
The benefits of yoga for mental health are umpteen. By practicing yoga you can control your mind better, improve your concentration, alertness and memory retention. You can also calm down easily and reduce the level of stress, tension, and anxiety that arises in daily life. It is known to help in recovery from depression too.
