Be Happy to Beat Depression
Being sad, sorrowful, morose, in a state of unhappiness may come naturally to a person who is depressed. A depressed person will also tend to see negatives in everything or circumstances that are positive and encouraging in nature. They may feel indifferent or unhappy even in situations/events that are of a positive or celebratory nature. They may read wrong meanings into things that have a positive message.
All this can be attributed to the feelings of negativity that they are going through. It affects the mind, thought process and attitude of the person. As much as you may be helpless in overcoming your condition, yet you are the only person who can really help yourself to overcome the feelings of depression, hopeless and sorrow.
Overcoming depression, being positive, seeing the brighter side, recovering from your state of dullness and low morale depends largely on you. External intervention and clinical help will have a minimal effect if your own willingness to combat the condition is not present.
Decide that you do not want to be in a state of depression. Decide to choose happiness, cheerfulness and enthusiasm instead of being depressed and sorrowful.
Do not attach too many sentiments and emotional values to what you are going through. Excessive sentiments and lack of control on emotions can provoke self pity, helplessness, hopelessness and create even more emotional turmoil.
See things the way they are. Have a practical and objective way of looking at things. Do not colour it with negatives or irrational thoughts. Accept things the way they are. If the situation is a happy and positive one, draw strength and inspiration from it rather than avoiding it.
Do what makes you happy. Overcome the tendency to be passive and unenthusiastic. Do not feel angry with yourself and punish yourself for whatever reasons you may think of. You deserve as much happiness as anyone else.
Stop brooding about the past and future. Be mindful of the present and enjoy it.
