Menopause brings about a metamorphosis in a woman’s emotional and physical health. This is the time when age starts showing on her and she should take good care of her skin in these crucial years. The most visible physical changes are the skin becoming dry and the appearance of wrinkles.
The main cause of these changes is the reduction in the estrogen levels during menopause. Lower estrogen levels mean lesser moisture in the skin and reduction in the amount of collagen that gives elasticity and suppleness to the skin.
Skin Care Tips To Age Beautifully
Crucial skin care tips during menopause include moisturisation, sun protection and a conscious reduction in the use of skin care products that contain harsh chemicals.
• Use a good quality moisturizer that has anti-aging properties and contains anti-oxidants like Vitamin A, E and C. These will help restore elasticity to your skin.
• Use sunscreen more liberally to protect the skin from further dryness and irritation due to sun exposure. Choose other products that have an inbuilt SPF of 30 or more.
• Use lukewarm water to bathe and limit the shower time to 10-15 minutes. Hot water strips the skin of its natural oils.
• Adding healthy oils like olive, flaxseed and fish oils can help you combat skin dryness.
• Exercising 20-30 minutes everyday can lead to a healthier and younger looking skin. It will help improve blood circulation which in turn leads to more oxygen and nutrients getting delivered to the skin when you workout.
• Using skin care and cosmetic products that contain anti-oxidants like Vitamin C help fight age related damage. It is advisable to use ones with harsh chemicals. You can instead switch over to herbal or natural products.
• Mild cosmetic procedures like microdermabrasion and chemical peels are re-fighting measures that help in collagen synthesis and thus improve your looks.
Keep in mind that menopause is not the end of the road but the beginning of a mature, wiser and beautiful you!
